The Business Affairs department offers business advice on a wide range of theater-related matters, including options, commissions, royalties, copyright and collaboration. It also provides guidance and follows up on complaints regarding theaters, producers, publishers, agents, attorneys, festivals and contests. Through the Business Affairs department, the Guild also offers a mediation service to help resolve disputes amongst Guild members.
With regard to contractual matters, the lawyers in the Business Affairs department will examine any of your theater-related contracts and assist you by providing information about their negotiation. In certain situations, members may use the Guild's standard or model contracts.
Guild members receive Business Affairs articles in each issue of Guildworks, providing a look at current legal issues and business trends concerning dramatists, with updates and additional information provided in the e-Newsletter. In addition, the Guild’s entire library of past Business Affairs articles is available by mail or via Internet. For quick help, members can also refer to the Business Affairs FAQ now available on our website.
Every Guild member always has access to the Business Affairs department. Members can fax, mail, e-mail, call the toll-free hotline or make an appointment to speak with an attorney.
